By bus

By rail

Trenton is the northern end of the River Line light rail system, which serves communities along the Delaware River from Trenton to Camden.

By taxi

Trenton also offers taxi services throughout the surrounding regions by companies such as Yellow Cab and United Cab Company.

See

• William Trent House, 15 Market Street, 609) 989-3027. Open Daily 12:30 pm to 4 pm, closed on municipal holidays. The home of William Trent, the namesake of the city. Offers tours and educational programs on Colonial American life.

• New Jersey State House, (609) 633-2709. Tours Monday-Friday 10 am - 3 pm, Saturday 12 pm - 3 pm, closed on state holidays. Offers tours of the state legislature house. Reservations are required, with a one month notice for groups of 10 or more.

• Grounds for Sculpture, outdoor art park in nearby Hamilton.

• The Trenton Barracks, where Washington housed troops during the Revolution.

• The Planetarium at New Jersey State Museum, 205 W. State Street, (609) 292-6333. This facility which seats 150 people has been a tradition in Trenton for years. Thousands of school children and visitors travel to the planetarium each year to see laser shows and exhibits of the solar system.

• Trenton War Memorial Theater, 200 Barrack Street, (609) 984-8484. This theater seats more than 1800 people for music events, graduations, and plays.

Do

• Six Flags Great Adventure, 1 Six Flags Boulevard, Jackson, NJ (Take I-195 East to exit 16A). Open daily May-August, on weekends and assorted days in April, September, and October. A major theme park boasting the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, Kingda Ka. Admission is $59.99, but there are numerous discounts. If you plan to visit more than once, a season pass ($99.99) would be cheaper.

• Sesame Place, 100 Sesame Rd, Langhorne, PA (take Route 1 South into Pennsylvania and take Oxford Valley exit), (215) 752-7070. Great for families, a Sesame Street-themed amusement park featuring water rides and kid-friendly thrill rides. Admission is $41.95 a person, but discounts are regularly available.

• Mercer County Waterfront Park, One Thunder Road, (609)-394-3300. Home of the Trenton Thunder, a Double-A minor league baseball team currently affiliated with the New York Yankees. For times and tickets, see the team's website.

• Sovereign Bank Arena, 81 Hamilton Avenue, (888) SBA-TIXX. This seven year old arean in the capital of New Jersey is host to countless events throughout the year including Trenton Titan hockey games, ice shows, monster truck shows, concerts, conventions, circuses, graduations, and boxing matches.

The Delaware River also offers a great place for fishing especially with new renovations made to the surrounding land.

Buy

Although there is not much recreational shopping in the city of Trenton, the surrounding area is full of options. Just a few minutes up Route 1 is the Quaker Bridge Mall as well as several strip malls and shopping centers containing dozens of stores like Target, Best Buy, and Michael's Arts & Crafts.

Eat

In Chambersberg, an Italian neighborhood, there are countless excellent Italian resturants including:

All of these places have been in "The Burg" for many years and are the first places that come to mind for most Trentonians.

Drink

• KatManDu, 50 Riverview Executive Plaza.

There are many little close-knit bars throughout the city, however one very popular place is KatManDu. This restaurant also holds banquets and turns into a nightclub in the evening, entertaining many locals.

Sleep

• Trenton Marriott at Lafayette Yard, 1 West Lafayette Street, (609)-421-4000. The only hotel in Trenton city limits.

Get out

A few miles north of Trenton is Princeton, home of the famed university.

If you are looking for a different experience close to the area, the Jersey Shore is perfect. Point Pleasant, Seaside, and Belmar all offer beaches and boardwalks within 45 minutes of the city via I-195.

Trains also provide a quick ride to both Philadelphia as well as New York City.
